Last week, Ivica Jeđud, a project manager from the Public Open University Čakovec (a partner on the MC Chef project), participated in the EPALE Community Conference, which was held on 22-23 October in Brussels. The Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe (EPALE) is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, bringing together more than 170,000 individuals from the adult education sector, with over 100,000 users engaging with the e-platform every month. The EPALE Community Conference marked past achievements and looked towards the future of adult education, gathering practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and innovators from across Europe. Through a series of activities – from round-tables and plenary lectures to interactive workshops – three key themes were addressed, which have defined EPALE’s thematic focuses for 2025: Artificial intelligence and its transformative impact on educational processes; Basic skills as the foundation of lifelong learning; Developing future-oriented skills to prepare learners for the opportunities of tomorrow.
Ivica participated in various workshops where he presented our approach to the education of adult learners and VET in the MC Chef project. In the rising age of AI, hands-on skills such as cooking, and occupations connected to it, are deemed irreplaceable. The innovative micro-credential format that is being implemented in the MC Chef garnered special interest from peers at the conference. This is because not many European countries have developed micro-credential frameworks in VET, let alone attempted to apply them at a trans-European level, as the MC Chef project is doing. The feedback on the presented general information about the project and the recently developed micro-credential curriculum was well received and serves as an extra motivational push to create high-quality resources, learning environments, and experiences for our adult learners.
We invite you to follow the MC Chef website for more updates, including the free and open online course being published next year.
